Abstract
It is our recent impression that, there are increasing number of patients who request to have postpartum tubal ligation for their family planning since it has been known to be a safe, simple, economic and highly efficient method of sterilization. On the other hand, obstetricians are often, encountered with some of those who express their regret at thepresence of postoperative abdominal scar, a constant reminder of sterility.
In 1968, PETER M. MARK and GILBERT A. WEBB described their devised incision, a semilunar, incision within the confines of the umbilicus itself, which become relativelyinvisible after the wound heals and involution of the postpartum abdominal wall occurs.
The operative technic together with our two years experience of this incision is described..
Conclusion
A type of abdominal incision at the-navel is thought as being especially suited to postpartum tubal ligation and,has significant adventages as following over traditional longitudinal incision technic.
1. Hemostasis is not required because of poor vascularity of operation site. 2. Sufficient operation field could be obtained through a small incision. 3. Improved patient acceptability concerning cosmetic satisfaction.
